A majority of your anxiety comes from your phone!
I know it is a tough pill to swallow but it is true and we need to prioritize spending less time on our devices.
In this article by digitalinformationworld.com, they discuss how our phones are actually just hurting us. Here are a couple of the main points. 👇👇
Smartphone usage linked to exhaustion, lack of motivation, and mood changes.
Global smartphone users increasingly dependent on devices for basic needs, but disappointed in finding meaning in life through them.
Findings indicate smartphones exacerbate detachment from the real world and contribute to depression and loneliness.
People exhibit extreme anxiety when separated from their smartphones, indicating a strong attachment.
These researchers have linked the sociological effect to the psychological impact to show social media's integration with the mind. It leaves more detached from the outer world and become one of the prime reason for depression. Excessive dependency on smartphones leads to feelings of loneliness, depression, unhappiness, poor mental health, and suicidal outcomes.
Parker’s Breakdown: Anxiety
Over 40 million adults in the U.S. have an anxiety disorder. That is 19.1% of America’s population. But in 1990, only 5.62% had an anxiety disorder. I think we can all see that something is wrong here!
I believe it is because of a multitude of items that have become the standard of human civilization, and they need to be changed. Here are some of the main reasons I believe we are such an anxious society. 👇👇
Constant overstimulation - This is the biggest one. We are constantly stimulated with our phones and social media and it is killing our brains. Everytime you scroll on to a new tik tok or instagram reel or whatever, it is the same amount of stimulation for your brain as entering a new room full of new people. So your brain is entering into 100’s of new rooms in an hour essentially. Can’t you see how that would be bad for your brain and overstimulating and overwhelming? There is absolutely no reason for us to have tik tok or instagram, but if you feel that you need them so bad, keep them off of your phone and only on your computer and establish a limit of screen time on them.
Too much caffeine - With monster, celcius, starbucks drinks with 3 espresso shots, our society is cracked out all of the time. Caffeine releases cortisol (Stress hormone) when it is ingested, so we are releasing copious amounts of cortisol throughout our entire day. I recommend keeping your caffeine intake to just 1-2 coffees a day.
Poor diet/vitamin deficiency - Awful diets our regular now. People look at you weird if you have a meal prep container or think you are some try hard or loser if you eat healthy. That is so backwards! With our poor diets, we are deficient in so many vitamins that regulate our mood and anxiety. Aim to have a nutrient dense diet, like an animal based diet or a Mediterranean diet.
Not enough time outside - We are cooped up in buildings all day when we were made to be outside all day. We lack vitamin D which is essentially for happiness and mood regulation. I recommend spending at least 2+ hours everyday out in the sun.
Not enough rest time - The average american works 47 hours a week. Not to mention trying to cook for themselves, go to the gym, take care of a family, and maintain a social life. When we do have time to rest, we feed our brain a million different bits of information and overstimulate it with our phones. Our brain and body never has time to relax. Make a day out of the week to just relax and sit outside and just stay off your phone. Read a book, go for a walk, fish, just do something that is off your phone and is calm, your brain will thank you.
CNS fatigue - This one does not apply to everyone, but can apply to my audience. If you are hitting the gym really intensely every day of the week or even 6 days of the week, you may be pushing your body too hard and are causing Central Nervous System Fatigue. CNS fatigue refers to a state of exhaustion or decreased performance resulting from prolonged or intense mental or physical activity that taxes the central nervous system. It can manifest as decreased cognitive function, reduced reaction time, impaired decision-making abilities, and overall feelings of tiredness and lethargy. CNS fatigue can occur in various contexts, including intense exercise, prolonged periods of concentration or mental exertion, or chronic stress.
Fix these tips and reduce your anxiety for good! Hope this helps!
