I truly believe processed foods are a leading culprit when it comes to the increased cancer & heart disease rates. Obesity has become a norm in our culture and it is a result of big food companies pushing their processed foods.

In this article by theequation.com, they discuss how large food companies only care about profits, making their food quality poor, which is destroying our health. Here are a couple of the main points 👇👇

  • Each year, about 1.5 million people in the US die from cancer, heart disease, or obesity, with poor diet as a leading cause.

  • The food environment, shaped by corporate profit motives, heavily influences eating behaviors.

  • Processed foods, cheap and marketed extensively, contribute to addiction and chronic disease.

  • Similar to Big Tobacco, Big Food utilizes lobbying, misinformation, and marketing to shape policy and promote consumption.

  • The US food supply is dominated by processed grains and added sugars and fats, promoting disease.

Mass-produced, processed foods that have been engineered in ways that result in addictive behavior patterns and chronic disease. Processed foods are widely available, cheap, and heavily marketed to us by corporations in pursuit of their raison d’etre – maximizing profits by encouraging more and more consumption.

Parker’s Breakdown: Processed Foods 🔑

People need to start viewing large food companies the same as cigarette companies. They don’t care about you or your health or longevity, they only care about profit. Profit means making their foods with terrible and addictive ingredients in order to make it as cheap as possible and to keep you addicted to eating it.

Common chemicals and ingredients found in processed foods include:

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) - linked to negative effects on brain health and obesity

High fructose corn syrup - linked to heart disease and inflammation

Food coloring - linked to cancer

These are only three out of the hundreds of ingredients and chemicals used to create processed foods.

The evidence is clear: Big Food prioritizes profits over the well-being of consumers, resulting in a public health crisis of unprecedented proportions. By exposing the manipulative tactics and harmful ingredients used in processed foods, we can empower individuals to make informed choices and improve their health.

This is why I urge people to eat fully natural and organic. Now, do I think eating fast food every once in a while is going to kill you? No, and I do it myself, but I certainly think your day to day diet should consist of whole foods that are included in diets such as the animal based diet, paleo, whole 30 and carnivore.

The Study 📖

The study conducted a systematic search to identify 43 relevant studies examining the association between ultra-processed food (UPF) consumption and various health outcomes. These studies encompassed diverse populations and health conditions, with a focus on both adults and children. A quality assurance process ensured consensus-based decisions, and a synthesis of the evidence was performed to provide a comprehensive assessment of UPFs' influence on human health.

Here’s what they found:

  • UPF consumption was associated with a higher risk of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in a French cohort

  • Depression risk increased with higher UPF intake in both French and Spanish populations

  • Regular consumption of UPF (>5 days/week) was identified as having 2.35 times higher odds of breast cancer

  • For every 10% increment in the proportion of UPF in the diet (by percentage grams), there was a 12% higher risk for total cancers, and 11% increased risk for breast cancer

  • Participants with a higher proportional intake (by weight) of UPF in the diet had significantly higher risk of type 2 diabetes

  • Higher incident rate of all cardiovascular disease (CVD) in those with the highest intake of UPF consumption

There were more findings that are very concerning. You should check out the study findings yourself!
