Positive thinking can change your life. The same way in that negative thinking can change your life.

Most hyper successful entrepreneurs and athletes are all positive thinkers. With them, it is never “We can’t do it!” ,it is always “How am I going to do this?”.

This is a great article by Briantracy.com that talks about the powers of positive thinking. I chose this article though because it also really highlights the effects of negative thinking. Here are a couple of the main points: 👇👇

  • Positive thinking provides many benefits like better health, increased happiness, improved relationships, enhanced creativity and problem-solving abilities.

  • Negative thoughts limit brain activity and decision making. They are linked to health issues like heart disease. Signs include perfectionism, anticipating the worst, and dwelling on the negative.

  • Replace negative thoughts with positive ones through self-talk, focusing on solutions, expecting the best outcomes, and reframing challenges as opportunities.

  • Develop positive thinking by knowing yourself, finding good in the world, setting goals, using affirmations, surrounding yourself with positive people/media, choosing to be happy, practicing gratitude, and laughing.

  • Positive thinking enhances confidence, boosts motivation, increases success, and literally changes how your brain operates by releasing feel-good hormones.

Positive thinking can lower a person’s risk of death from serious illnesses, including cancer, infections, heart disease, stroke, and lung conditions. It improves the outcomes of patients with brain tumors and traumatic brain injury and boosts your immune system

Parker’s Breakdown: Positive thinking 🧠

To illustrate just how powerful positive thinking really is and how much it can affect one’s body and mind and life, I want to tell you a true story.

In 1986, in what was back then the Soviet Union and is now today Ukraine, the Chernobyl Disaster occured. It is considered the worst nuclear accident in history. In a nuclear facility, an accident occurred and a nuclear explosion happened. It caused a 10 story tall nuclear fire that released 400x more radiation in the atmosphere than the nuclear bomb America dropped on Hiroshima.

They evacuated cities 100’s of miles away and there was a death count of 15-30k that would ultimately perish as a result of this. But 20 years later, the UN did a study on the long term impact of the entire incident. They found some very interesting stuff.

They believe that the predictions of the total deaths from the actual incident were far off. A lead physician in the study said “By and large, however, we have not found profound negative health impacts to the rest of the population” and this was said about the actual death count - “fewer than 50 deaths had been directly attributed to radiation from the disaster”.

So then what caused the death of thousands of people?

Well, the UN answers that for us here. “The report labels the mental health impact of Chernobyl as “the largest public health problem created by the accident” and partially attributes this damaging psychological impact to a lack of accurate information. These problems manifest as negative self-assessments of health, belief in a shortened life expectancy, lack of initiative, and dependency on assistance from the State.”

The greatest damage done according to the UN was the negative view people had on their future as a result of this incident. They believed that they would not live long, they couldn’t do anything and they were a victim for the rest of their lives, and that they were bound to get cancer and diseases. Yet very few died as a result of cancer and diseases.

Negative self talk and negative beliefs are what messed the people up so much. That is how powerful your thoughts and beliefs are!

People with negative thoughts are proven to have a higher risk of death.

Positive thinkers are proven to have a reduced risk of heart attack, colds, heart disease, cancers, and lung conditions.

Start practicing the power of positive thinking today. For me, practicing presence, optimism, gratitude and also just immediately shutting down bad thoughts has helped me. There are plenty of videos out there though that can give you a framework of how to deal with this. Find what works for you and make optimism and positive thinking a part of who you are!
