Parkerās Breakdown: Discipline š
As a kid, I drank straight from the faucet every day, thinking it was just water. Little did I know I was chugging heavy metals, toxic chemicals, and all kinds of nasties that were silently building up in my body.
Fast forward to today, and hereās what Iāve learned:
The Dirty Truth About Tap Water š
Tap water in many areas is loaded with PFASā"forever chemicals" that donāt break down.
These have been linked to cancers, thyroid disease, fertility problems, and more.
18 samples tested showed PFOS (a type of PFAS) at 18 times the safe limit. PFOA? 1.5 times over.
Even water deemed "safe" can be at āmedium riskā levels due to outdated treatment processes.
Pipes that deliver your water are often corroded, leaking harmful metals directly into what you drink.
How to Protect Yourself š
You donāt need to dig a well or go off the grid. You just need a solid filtration system. My personal choice? A reverse osmosis machine. I use the AquaTru, but there are plenty of good options out there.
Hereās the deal: If you wouldnāt let your family eat food off a filthy floor, why let them drink dirty water every single day?
Your health is worth the extra step. Filter your water, cut out the toxins, and give your body the clean fuel it deserves.
The Study š
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted the first comprehensive study comparing PFAS levels in tap water from both private wells and government-regulated public water supplies across the United States. Scientists collected water samples from 716 locations between 2016 and 2021, covering areas categorized as low (protected lands), medium (residential and rural areas with no known PFAS sources), and high (urban or industrial areas with known PFAS sources). Using a method developed by the USGS National Water Quality Laboratory, the study tested for 32 individual PFAS compounds, assessing the presence and concentration of these "forever chemicals."
Here is what they found:
45% of the nation's tap water contains PFAS
12,000+ Types of PFAS: While only 32 types were tested, the sheer number of variants (over 12,000) makes monitoring and mitigating PFAS exposure incredibly challenging.
Health Risks: PFAS exposure is associated with cancers, thyroid disorders, fertility problems, developmental delays in children, and immune system suppression.
Persistent Contamination: Once introduced into the water supply, PFAS remain for generations, making it nearly impossible to fully eliminate them from our ecosystem.
